Maybe you are like me and not much into Science? 

To be honest, I was never very good at Science at school and it didn’t particularly interest me until I started learning more about the human body over the past 15 years!

But whether Science is your jam or not…. I do think it is important to look at the science behind the Metabolism Reset, so you too, can get a better understanding of how it works.

There are 2 essential steps to unclogging a liver:

  1. Liver Repair Diet which involves High Conjugation and Low Fuel and;

  2. Body Reset – looking at our Sleep Debt and the Micro Workouts on the program.

Step 1 – What is High Conjugation?

Conjugation means to “join up” or “bond together”.  Your liver needs conjugating nutrients in order to get rid of fat and toxicants.

The Liver Cleanse is a 2 phase process – Activation and Conjugation. 

Picture a coal mine – the goal is to get the coal out of the ground, right? Firstly, you need to break the coal off the wall, and then put the coal into the cart to haul out.

In Activation phase the wastes are “activated” or chemically altered, so they are ready to stick to something.  This phase is your body chipping away the coal from the wall.

During Conjugation the waste is packaged up in certain nutrients so it can be sent out of your body, without making trouble along the way.  This is the coal going into the cart.

Amino acids, stimulated by phytonutrients, aided by dietary fibres are how the conjugation phase is performed.

The greater need there is for your liver to detox i.e. when it is really clogged, the faster this process goes.

The Problem = lots of things speed up Activation more than Conjugation, such as caffeine, alcohol, and chemicals in our food and environment.

This is one reason why Fasting for Detoxifying is not always effective. 

Fasting does not cause wastes to move out of where they are stored, but because your liver doesn’t have enough material for conjugation, the waste often ends up leaving the tissues and moving back into the bloodstream.

From there they hit your liver again when they are flushed through your blood and might even relocate to the brain.

What is best to help assist the liver’s ability to eliminate wastes and process fuel more efficiently?

It is a diet high in Phytonutrients.  The best way to help an overactive pathway during activation phase appears to be eating a diet high in a combination of cruciferous veggies such as broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage, along with apiaceous veggies like carrots, parsley and parsnips.

Womens’ livers respond better to these foods than mens’ livers do.  A win for us ladies! 🙂

Foods that speed up the conjugation phase are fish, turmeric, tomatoes, garlic, onion, radishes, grapes and papaya.  These boost the livers internal defenses like NrF2 and Glutathione, which are essential for aiding in the body’s detoxification process.

It is very interesting learning how if the liver, being the key organ in our body’s detoxification process, is not functioning at optimum levels, could potentially create all sorts of diseases.
