Even if you didn’t set specific New Year’s resolutions, you are probably trying to stay healthy throughout the entire year.
It’s a goal that many of us set for ourselves as we try to feel our best physically and mentally.
As Winter rolls around, it can be harder to stay on track. Often, the cold weather and less sunlight can influence our everyday lives.
If the weather is too cold, we might not feel like exercising outdoors. If the sun isn’t shining, you might feel groggy all day.
This is why it’s so important to keep up with your healthy habits though. When you do this, you can feel energized and push through your workouts, even if the sun isn’t shining.
Here are a few tips for staying healthy, even when the temperatures drop.
- Find an accountability partner.
When you have someone counting on you, you’re more likely to follow through. You want to be able to set a good example to your friend or spouse, so they feel like they can keep up with their habits too!
- Plan your meals ahead of time.
If you’re feeling tired all day during the cooler months, it can be difficult to prepare healthy meals.
When you plan ahead, you will know exactly what you can eat so you aren’t tempted to eat an unhealthy meal instead.
You can look specifically for easier recipes (like delicious slow cooked recipes or tasty soups!) so you can still nourish your body and feel your best.
- Set weekly intentions.
When you are intentional about what you hope to accomplish, you may find it easier to get it all done.
You might set a goal or intention to work out every other day this week. Or maybe you will set an intention to drink a certain amount of water or eat a specific number of fruits and vegetables each day.
Setting yourself up with Small Goals that are Achievable, help maintain your health, plus make you feel good within yourself.
- Find a new workout routine you love.
If you used to run, bike, swim, or enjoy another outdoor activity as a workout, it might be time to give another type of workout a try.
There are plenty of free online workouts you can use during the cooler months. You could also try a new kind of workout equipment at the gym.
By changing things up, you might be more excited to go work out, even if the weather isn’t great.
I always make more time to REST over Winter too. Taking advantage of the shorter days, I find getting to bed a little earlier and getting up a little later, helps me to recharge over those cooler months.
