Hormones?  Now that I have your attention, let’s dive in….

Yes, as women, we all want to understand more about hormones… What role they play in our body AND how we can ensure they are playing that role correctly!

Otherwise, they can wreak havoc – as I know you will attest to if you are a woman over 40!

Let’s look at the role your liver plays in helping your hormones work how they should.  Most hormones are made in an inactive state and it is your liver’s job to sort out the finer details.  This is where the “converting” role of the Liver comes into play.

Imagine your body is trying to collapse a tunnel in a mountain.  It brings the dynamite, but your liver lights the sticks, after it has worked out how many blasts it is going to need to do the job!

This analogy applies to all your important hormones – thyroid, adrenal stress, reproductive and blood sugar regulating hormones.

With your thyroid hormones, 80% of them are never used.  Your liver turns them into inactive hormone called Reverse T3 and throws them out.  It may seem wasteful, but just like your calories never match your day’s needs exactly, neither do your hormones.

It takes 6 weeks or more for your thyroid to adjust its output.  It is your liver that manages the day-to-day levels by deciding how much to use and how much to waste.  So if your liver is not properly managing these hormones, it can slow your metabolism by hundreds of calories a day.
Unfortunately, thyroid disease and liver disease of all types overlap to a huge degree.

Let’s take a look at another hormone – your Stress Hormones.  The adrenals produce a weak hormone called Cortisone.  It is mostly up to your liver to make a stronger version, as it sees fit.  This is called Cortisol; which I am sure you are very familiar with this one.

When this process is not working correctly, visceral fat (which is found in the abdominal cavity) grows faster, equating to weight retention around the abdomen area.

It is clear to see that the liver needs to be able to perform its “conversion” role correctly, in order to be able to regulate all of these hormones, for us to be able to enjoy great health and our natural weight.

If your hormones are wreaking havoc for you, I would highly recommend you join me in my 28 day Metabolism Reset Program.
